Gunnar Carlsson, PhD

Co-Founder

Gunnar Carlsson is a co-founder of Ayasdi Inc. Gunnar has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Stanford University, and has been a professor of mathematics at Stanford University since 1991. In the last ten years, he has been involved in adapting topological techniques to data analysis, under NSF funding and as the lead PI on the DARPA “Topological Data Analysis” project from 2005 to 2010. He is the lead organizer of the ATMCS conferences, and serves as an editor of several Mathematics journals.


Gurjeet Singh, PhD

Co-Founder and CEO

Gurjeet Singh is the CEO and co-founder of Ayasdi. Gurjeet has a Bachelor’s degree from Delhi University, and a Master’s and Ph.D. degree in Computational Mathematics from Stanford University. His graduate work and thesis was on the theory, algorithms and applications of topological data analysis. Gurjeet has published academic papers in top mathematics journals and computer science conferences. Gurjeet has previously worked at Google and Texas Instruments.


Harlan Sexton, PhD

Co-Founder

Harlan Sexton is a co-founder of Ayasdi Inc. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from Stanford University. He has over thirty software patents and has published numerous papers in a variety of areas including signal processing, software design, and parallel algorithms. In addition to research positions at Stanford, he has been a lead implementer of a Lisp virtual machine, a distributed object-oriented database for Smalltalk, and the Java virtual machine that runs in the Oracle RDBMS kernel.


Pek Lum, PhD

Vice President, Life Sciences

Pek Lum joined Ayasdi in September 2010 to start and lead the Life Sciences sector where she is developing the vision and business strategy. Prior to joining Ayasdi, she spent 10 years at Rosetta Inpharmatics/ Merck & Co. where her research in systems biology has contributed to the discoveries of new targets, biomarkers and the understanding of complex diseases. Her work has been widely published in leading scientific journals. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington.


Ben Mann, PhD

Director, Federal Operations

Ben Mann heads up Ayasdi’s initiatives with government agencies. He was a DARPA Program Manager from 2004-2010.  In this role, he created and funded novel mathematics programs with applications in materials science, physics, chemistry, biology and neuroscience.  He came to DARPA from the National Science Foundation where he was a program officer. Prior to joining the NSF, he was on the mathematics faculties of several universities. He received his doctorate in Mathematics from Stanford University.
